Two of our RSL-AZ 01 girls traveled with the Rush East Coast select team to San Sebastian, Spain to compete against top level girls soccer teams in this year’s Donosti Cup. The tournament included world class clubs like Man City, Atletico Madrid, Lyon, and many more European and world clubs. The girls competed well, both Faith Flores and Catalina Alvarado were starters for the team. Our young ladies did us proud against top level international competition, advancing out of their group with teams from Mexico, and Spain. The team progressed into the quarterfinals, unfortunately to lose after extra time and penalties. That aside, the trip was an amazing experience for both girls.
They were able stay and tour Barcelona and visit the hallowed grounds of the Camp Nou. The tournament hosted festivities and World Cup watch parties with over 800 teams from all over the world. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. We thank Rush, the coaching staff, and chaperones for keeping our girls safe and for showing them an incredible time.
This is the second time in less than a year that our players were able to compete against professional European club academies. Our Technical Director Nick Vitale(UEFA A License), toured Italy earlier this year with one our boys Mason. They were lucky enough to play against the Juventus and Roma youth Academies on back to back days. Nowhere else in Tucson will you find these types of opportunities in boys or girls soccer programs.
